Brian Schear, a Southern California man, posted a video on Youtube of a Delta flight attendant kicking them off of an overbooked plane after they refused to give up aa seat for their son.
Schear said that both he and his family were flying from Hawaii to Los Angeles last week when attendants asked them to give up the seat where their 2-year-old son was sitting.
However, he refused to do so and was threatened with jail.
The Southern California man recalled the attendant saying,
“You have to give up the seat or you’re going to jail, your wife is going to jail and they’ll take your kids from you.”
Delta employees wanted the family to, instead of allowing the child to have a seat, hold them in their laps during the flight. However, Schear argued that they had bought the boy a ticket because he needed to sit in his car seat to sleep, so they were entitled to that seat.
The entire family was ultimately ordered to get off of the plane and ended up staying overnight in a hotel. They bought new tickets out the following day.
In a statement on Thursday, Delta did not explain why the family was asked to give up their son’s seat, but did say,
“We’re sorry for what this family experienced. Our team has reached out and will be talking with them to better understand what happened and come to a resolution. I can confirm that this was not because the flight was overbooked.”
