“I know this because last month, my son Christopher, his boyfriend Juan, and 47 others, where murdered at a club in Orlando.”

Christine Leinonen took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday. She was speaking about her son, Christopher, who was killed in a shooting in an Orlando nightclub in June of this year.

She was accompanied by two young men who were friends of Christopher’s that were supporting her as she had difficulty standing on stage. Christine explained that her son was a big Hillary Clinton supporter, which is why she was at the DNC to give her speech.

“Christopher was my only child. As I used to tell him, you can’t do better than perfect.”

Christine gave a powerful speech about the fact that common sense gun policy was not in place on the day that her son died — no doubt shedding light on the fact that her son was killed by a man using a weapon that, as she explained, shot 30 rounds in a single minute.

“One minute for a gun to fire so many shots. Five minutes for a bell to honor so many lives.”

Mrs. Leinonen highlighted the fact that, on the day that her son was born, she was a state trooper. When she went into labor, her gun was taken from her and put into a safe. She praised this “common sense gun” policy that was in place because it “[saves] lives.” However, she questions, where was this the day that her son was murdered?

“I never want you to ask that question about your child. That’s why I support Hillary Clinton.”

Christine also gave a heart wrenching interview following the shooting as she awaited news about her son, Christopher. It can be seen here.
