Former top aide to Hillary Clinton Brian Fallon says that President-elect Donald Trump is worried about his legitimacy.

Speaking on CNN’s ‘New Day,’ Fallon said “I think Donald Trump is trying to cling to whatever legitimacy is still in effect here.”

Remarking on tweets that the President-elect had posted earlier in the day, Fallon said “I think those tweets are just the latest indication that Donald Trump is someone who is very insecure in his victory and I understand why.”

“Every day there are new developments, new shoes dropping, so to speak, that call into question the legitimacy of his win,” he added.” Fallon referenced the Russian hacking and the Trump team’s attempts to deny that it happened, only to be forced to admit to it weeks later. He also pointed to questions about how public announcements by FBI Director James Comey affected the result of the election.

Comey’s actions in the time before the election is now the focus of an investigation by the Inspector General of the Department of Justice. On Friday, he was the subject of a heated congressional meeting from which Democrats left outraged.

Earlier Friday, Trump tweeted that the FBI had been more than fair to Clinton. “What are Hillary Clinton’s people complaining about with respect to the F.B.I.” Trump asked. “Based on the information they had she should never have been allowed to run — guilty as hell. They were VERY nice to her. She lost because she campaigned in the wrong states – no enthusiasm!”
