Former Secretary of State Colin Powell slammed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a personal email exchange that was leaked by hackers.
Powell called Mr. Trump a “national disgrace” and “international pariah” in a June 17 email exchange with former aide, Emily Miller. He went on to say that Trump was “in the process of destroying himself, no need for Dems to attack him.”
According to Buzzfeed, in another email exchange with the same aide, the retired 4-star general said:
“Yup, the whole birther movement was racist… That’s what the 99% believe. When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim.”
Although it should be shocking that Powell feels this way about Donald Trump, it actually seems to be par for the course for the Republican party. Many within the party have spoken out against Mr. Trump and widely criticized his policies. Powell is simply the latest Republican to voice his disdain for the Republican presidential nominee, although he did do so in confidence. Furthermore, even though he is a Republican, he did endorse President Barack Obama twice.
Powell has also been in the news recently regarding Hillary Clinton’s email scandal, for which he claims in another leaked email:
“I have told Hilleary’s [sic] minions repeatedly that they are making a mistake trying to drag me in, yet they still try.”
