News that Bill O’Reilly has been ousted by Fox News took over the internet like a wildfire with many social media users across various platforms expressing their delight.
To be sure, O’Reilly continued to have the top ratings at Fox even after more sexual harassment settlements were uncovered by the New York Times and despite a new wave of allegations being leveled against him. And his ratings seemed to be unaffected by dozens of advertisers pulling out of advertising on his show.
However, public pressure appears to have won the day. By many accounts though, neither the ouster of co-founder and longtime chief Roger Ailes, nor the firing of its top star — both men are largely credited with building the conservative network — resolves the cable news giant’s culture of harassment.
Mega-star Cher was also quick to point out her perspective after hearing the news regarding O’Reilly:
3 FAMOUS OLD MEN…ROGER AILELS,
BILL O’REILLY,& DONALD TRUMP HAVE SEXUALLY HARASSED WOMEN 4 YRS,TWO GOT FIRED,& ONE WAS ELECTED PRESIDENT‼️

And while others agreed that O’Reilly had to go, made a very important point — Fox did not act because of the sexual harassment, but because of it ending up in sunlight:

But all in all, glee and joy was the general reaction on Twitter. Here are some of the best ones:

Bill O'Reilly just got his Walking Points. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. In his case, that was uncomfortably literal. #FoxNews

Bill O'Reilly is done at Fox News, and Jason Chaffetz won't run for reelection. It's a good day in America.

You can't make this stuff up: Bill O'Reilly fired for sexual abuse of women and shakes hands with Pope Francis on the same day.
