Many of Colin Powell’s emails were leaked by hackers and it has since come to light that the former Secretary of State believes the investigation into the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya was a “stupid witch hunt.”
In a leaked email exchange with Condoleezza Rice, Powell said that the “courageous ambassador” who died in the assault, Christopher Stevens, was partly at fault.
“Benghazi is a stupid witch hunt… Basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who (thought) Libyans now love me and I am ok in this very vulnerable place.”
However, Powell didn’t completely absolve Clinton of any wrongdoing. He was explicit in saying that “HRC” and others in the United States were partially responsible, but did not specify why he blamed Clinton.
Powell’s leaked e-mails have caused a whirlwind of controversy. In the other emails that were leaked, he also discusses his disdain for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
It seems that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton recognizes one thing that the two have in common, however. In a public appearance where she discussed Powell’s leaked e-mails, the former Secretary of State stated,
“I have sympathy for anyone whose emails become public.”
