Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway continued her penchant for finding ways to blame the media on Friday as she claimed on ABC’s Good Morning America that the media is doing women a disservice by reporting Donald Trump’s sexist tweets.
While defending the President for attacking MSNBC host Mike Brzezinski based on perceived bad coverage against Trump, she tried to claim that Trump was the victim of unfair media criticism.
“The toxicity both ways … coming to the President is terrible,” Conway said. She then attempted to claim that it was the media that was doing harm to women, not Trump and his sexism.
“The idea that the media — large parts of the media anyway — are covering personal insults about the president, this invective, and really denying America’s women their rightful knowledge of what he’s doing for them on taxes, on healthcare, and infrastructure,” she said.
ABC host George Stephanopoulos attempted to interject by pointing out that the media would not be talking about Trump’s tweets if he had not posted them in the first instance. Not to be deterred, Conway shot back by claiming that had the President not sent out his vicious tweets, the press would be covering Russia instead. “Respectfully, you would not be talking about tax reform because it was talked about for less than a minute on all the networks for the past five weeks.”
Stephanopoulos again objected by pointing out that “the President has not come out with a tax reform plan.”
Conway, however, continued to talk about imaginary things that she claimed President Trump is doing for women. “This is somebody who is trying to get those millions of women who lack healthcare covered. This is a man who is trying to get tax relief and entrepreneurship freed up in this country for those American women who want that, and it doesn’t get covered. It’s just not covered. There’s toxicity about this President.”
