Conservative firebrand Tomi Lahren has reportedly filed a lawsuit against her former boss, Glenn Beck, and the media company which he founded, The Blaze, for wrongful termination.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Dallas County, Texas, that Lahren’s show was canceled by Beck after she made her controversial comments on ABC’s ‘The View’ in support of abortion rights.
The her lawsuit, Lahren alleges that she was “understandably disappointed, saddened and in shock for being suspended for freely expressing her opinions, which certainly reconcile with what is the law of the land in the United States i.e., a woman’s constitutional right to choose and in no way inconsistent with any of [Lahren’s] obligations under the Employment Contract.”
Lahren was suspended and instructed to “go dark” on social media, according to the lawsuit, following her comments during a March 17 appearance on ABC’s ‘The View’ which were criticized in conservative ranks. As part of her remarks on the ABC show, the 24 year old conservative revealed that she supports a woman’s right to choice when it comes to abortion.
“You know what? I’m for limited government, so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well,” she said at the time. In calling pro-life conservatives hypocrites, the conservative firebrand said “I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies.”
She followed that up with a response to some of her critics on Twitter: “I have moderate, conservative, and libertarian views. I’m human. I will never apologize to anyone, for being an independent thinker.”
Glenn Beck, the founder of her employer, The Blaze, then blasted her on Twitter placing into question her intellectual honesty. “Wait, libertarian views? Help me out on Trumpcare, stimulus, and executive orders. Trump is anything but libertarian.” Beck then used the hashtag #intellectualhonesty to hammer home his point.
The suite is seeking a temporary restraining order protecting her right to free speech and to freely express her views and also to stop The Blaze from destroying evidence related to the incident.
She is also asking for attorneys’ fees and costs.
