On Friday, co-host of MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ Joe Scarborough went on a rant about U.S. President Donald Trump’s arguably defunct strategy for pushing legislation through Congress.
Rather than utilizing bipartisanship, which is necessary to pass major pieces of legislation, Trump chooses to burn bridges and isolate himself from others.
Scarborough noted that Trump doesn’t have a single person in his domestic policy cabinet that has ever passed a bill before. He explained,
“It’s like winning a bid to build a 90-story skyscraper in New York City and not having one person in management that’s ever built a building. Where is that [National Security Adviser H.R.] McMaster for domestic policy that we’ve been asking for, who actually understands the House, who understands the Senate?”
One of the panelists, Donny Deutsch, then said that this type of situation always happens whenever someone from outside the political sphere comes to the nation’s capital.
“Every outsider comes to Washington and says, ‘I’m going to play outside ball, I don’t need the inside.’ And they get swallowed up… and you’re watching it happen right now.”
The ‘Morning Joe’ co-host went on to compare Trump to a real estate developer from Omaha, Nebraska who claimed that he wanted to develop skyscrapers in New York, all the while “not playing by Manhattan’s rules.”
He sarcastically stated,
“Screw the mayor, screw the unions, screw the building authority, screw everybody, I’m going to do it my own way! A guy who thinks that he can reset the rules of a town that has lived by a set of rules for 240 years, you can’t do it!”
