White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Wednesday, during an odd audio-only daily press briefing, drew loud laughter from White House reporters as he insisted that President Donald Trump purposely tweeted ‘covfefe’ and that it had meaning to the President and certain people.
Spicer’s remarks came after one reporter asked if “people should be concerned that the President posted somewhat of an incoherent tweet last night.” Spicer quickly replied “no.”
The reporter then followed up with why the misspelled tweet stayed on Trump’s Twitter feed for so long, asking whether no one is monitoring the President’s tweets.
“The President and a small group of people know exactly what he meant,” Spicer replied immediately drawing wide laughter from the reporters in attendance.
Reporters then pressed on to get what that supposed meaning was, with one reporter asking what “covfefe” actually means. The Press Secretary, however, would not respond, and instead tried to move onto other questions as reporters continued to laugh.
Shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning, Trump tweeted “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.” The tweet remained on Trump’s feed until it was deleted some six hours later.
