Billionaire and Democratic mega donor George Soros and other big Democratic donors are meeting for three days in Washington D.C. to discuss how to stop Donald Trump’s agenda.
The reported meetings started on Sunday at the Mandarin Oriental hotel. According to Politico, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Rep. Keith Ellison — who, on Tuesday, announced that he is running for chair of the Democratic National Committee — are among the Democratic leaders who are expected to attend the meetings.
The meeting is the first major gathering of the institutional left since Donald Trump’s stunning win over the Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton on November 8. It appears from the agenda that Democrats are planning a full-on trench war against Trump from the day he takes office.
There are multiple sessions taking place, some are dealing with planning for the upcoming elections in 2017 and 2018, while others are focused on thwarting Trump’s 100 day plan, which on the agenda is called “a terrifying assault on President Obama’s achievements — and our progressive vision for an equitable and just nation.”
According to Politico:
“the meeting also comes as many liberals are reassessing their approach to politics — and the role of the Democracy Alliance, or DA, as the club is known in Democratic finance circles. The DA, its donors and beneficiary groups over the last decade have had a major hand in shaping the institutions of the left, including by orienting some of its key organizations around Clinton, and by basing their strategy around the idea that minorities and women constituted a so-called “rising American electorate” that could tip elections to Democrats.
Senator Bernie Sanders has voiced his belief that the Democratic Party has grown out of touch with ordinary Americans, and expressed his embarrassment for the party to lose white working class voters to Trump.
I come from the white working class, and I am deeply humiliated that the Democratic Party cannot talk to the people where I came from.
