NBA superstar Steph Curry found a clever way to call President Donald Trump an “ass” in the wake of comments from Under Armour CEO.
CEO Kevin Plank praised Trump by calling him an “asset” to the country in an interview with CNBC. “To have such a pro business President is something that is a real asset for the country,” Plank said. “People can really grab that opportunity.”
His remarks came in response to a question from host Scott Wapner about the CEO’s involvement in Trump’s Manufacturing Jobs Initiative.
In an exclusive interview with local newspaper Mercury News, Curry apparently did something that he does not typically like to do by talking about politics. Responding to Plank’s statement, Curry said “I agree with that description … if you remove the ‘et'” from asset.
He believed that he was sure where Plank stood on the subject based on his track record. Therefore, he was surprised to see the praise with which the CEO is lavishing Trump.
“I spent all day yesterday on the phone with countless people at Under Armour, countless people in Kevin Plank’s camp, my team, trying to understand what was going on and where everybody stood on the issue. Based off the release that KP sent out this morning, and what he told me last night, that’s the Under Armour that I know. That’s the brand I know he’s built and one that, as of Wednesday afternoon, is something that I’m standing on.”
Apparently, Plank explained to Curry on Tuesday that his comments were limited exclusively to the business setting. he otherwise distanced himself from Trump’s other policies that have been more controversial.
For now, Curry says that based on Plank’s explanation, his affiliation with Trump is not a deal-breaker as far as the superstar’s contract with the company which runs through 2024. However, he is more concerned about the company adopting Trump’s values.
