President Donald Trump commemorated Abraham Lincoln’s 208th birthday on Sunday on Instagram by posting a quote from ‘Honest Abe.’

The photo included a caption that read “HAPPY BIRTHDAY Abraham Lincoln!!!” and included a quote that said “And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

The Republican National Committee posted the same image on Sunday with the same quote.

According to Quote Investigator, there is “no substantive evidence that Lincoln used this expression. Some quotation references attributed the remark to Adlai Stevenson II who was the Governor of Illinois and a Democratic Presidential nominee. Indeed, Stevenson did deploy a version of this adage in speeches as early as 1952,” nearly a century after Lincoln’s assassination.

The site also states that “the earliest appearance of this notion located by [Quote investigator] was in an advertisement in 1947 for a book about aging by Edward J. Stieglitz, M.D.”
