President-elect Donald Trump has selected Fox New analyst Kathleen Troia (KT) McFarland to serve as his Deputy National Security Adviser under retired Lt. General Michael Flynn.
McFarland served as an official in the Reagan White House, working for the President’s Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger as a spokesperson and speechwriter. She also held national security positions in the Nixon and Ford administrations.

She made an unsuccessful attempt at then-Senator from New York Hillary Clinton’s seat in 2006, but ultimately lost in the Republican primary to John Spencer, who then lost to Clinton in the general election. More recently, she has been a national security analyst on Fox News.
McFarland had signaled her strong desire to serve on the Trump administration earlier when she spoke on Fox News saying that she would be happy to be a foot soldier.
“I put him smack dab in the middle of where Ronald Reagan was,” she said, speaking about Trump’s foreign policy. “Have a strong military, but you don’t use it. And you have such a strong military that nobody picks a fight with you. But then if they are dumb enough to do it, then you respond.”
Trump previously announced that retired Lt. General Michael Flynn will serve as his National Security Adviser.
