It seems that late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel’s emotional monologue about his newborn son’s health scare has had an effect on some members of the GOP.
One such member. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, appeared on “CNN Newsroom” on Friday and asserted that so-called Trumpcare will need to pass what he terms “the Jimmy Kimmel test” in order to win his support.
“I ask does it pass the Jimmy Kimmel test. Would a child born with a congenital heart disease be able to get everything he or she would need in that first year of life? I want it to pass the Jimmy Kimmel test.”
Cassidy is a trained physician and has introduced an amendment along with Sen. Susan Collins that would allow states to keep former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law or otherwise provide an alternative that would automatically enroll residents in basic health insurance plans.
The senator added,
“So simple answer, I want to make sure and the bill accomplishes this, that if a child is born and has what (Kimmel’s) child had that they would receive all the services, even if they go over a certain amount. So the simple answer, I want to make sure folks get the care they need.”
