On Sunday, after Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said, in unqualified terms, that President Trump will not be releasing his tax returns, WikiLeaks issued a plea to its followers on Twitter.

“Trump Counselor Kellyanne Conway stated today that Trump will not release his tax returns,” WikiLeaks tweeted, adding “Sent them to https://wikileaks.org/#submit so we can.”

The anti-secrecy site did not stop there. It also blasted the President for declining to release his tax returns himself. “Trump’s breach of promise over the release of his tax returns is even more gratuitous than Clinton concealing her Goldman Sachs transcripts,” the organization declared.

On Sunday, Kellyanne Conway said in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that the President would not release his tax returns. “We litigated this all through the election. People didn’t care. They voted for him, and let me make this very clear: most Americans are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like.”

Conway was responding to a question by Stephanopoulos regarding a White House citizen petition calling for the President to release his tax returns which has already received more than 200,000 signatures, well above the  number it needs in order to warrant a response from the administration.

The petition was created on Friday, shortly after Trump took the oath of office. It is demanding that the White House “immediately release Donald Trump’s full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance.”
