“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski slammed Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway over her claims that U.S. intelligence agents use household appliances to spy on Americans.
Conway cited documents leaked by WikiLeaks that have been purported as CIA documents in defense of President Donald Trump’s assertion that the phones at Trump Tower were wiretapped by former President Barack Obama prior to the November 2016 election.
However, Brzezinski wasn’t buying it.
“The last time I saw her on television she said the president has access to information you all don’t, and therefore it might be true. Now she is saying our microwaves can look at us.”
She later continued,
“This is Kellyanne Conway talking about microwaves and I think doing something extremely destructive and using everything she can to sort of boost her own power within this White House, which seems to have a demented twist to at least one side of, that we all need to look at really seriously.”
When the Counselor to the President was asked if Trump’s wiretapping claims have been supported by evidence, she completely dodged the question. Instead, Conway suggested that some sort of surveillance could be done through the use of electronic devices.
Executive editor at Random House, Jon Meacham, concluded that the “melancholy reality” is that the Trump adviser is actively working to undermine truth in both the government and its institutions. This could result, as he explained, in paranoid fantasies in people that struggle with mental health issues.
Referring to Trump’s so-called birther claims about former President Obama, Meacham said, “The historical analogy here is the birther conspiracy. We don’t have to go back very far, right?”
As she has done now several times in the past, Brzezinski reiterated that these types of comments are why Conway will not be welcome as a guest on “Morning Joe.”
“She doesn’t believe in what she is saying. The reason we won’t have her on this show is because a lot of what she says is either not true or she has no idea what she is saying, and it ends up being debunked by the very White House she works for. During the campaign, when she was very adept at transferring Trump’s message and talented in some ways, and would get off the set and say she needed to take a shower, and she would call him her client. She doesn’t believe in what she’s saying.”
The “Morning Joe” co-host went on to state that the Trump adviser’s integrity, as well as her demonstrably detrimental credibility issues, showcase a fundamental flaw in the entire Trump administration.
“She is part of something here that might be a serious strain of this presidency that could end unfortunately hurting our republic if Washington doesn’t do its job.”
