House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took to Twitter to blast Donald Trump for his early morning tirade accusing former president Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower, among other things.

The California Democrat called out President Trump for attempting to deflect attention from the ongoing and increasing investigations into his campaign’s ties to Russia.

“The Deflector-in-Chief is at it again. An investigation by an independent commission is the only answer,” Pelosi tweeted.

Early on Saturday morning, in a series of tweets, Trump accused former President Barack Obama of “wire tapping” his phones at his Trump Tower campaign headquarters during the 2016 presidential election. Trump called the action — for which he provided no proof — “McCarthyism” and compared it to President Nixon’s Watergate scandal.

Trump’s tweetstorm on Obama’s purported actions was part of a series which covered his Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and even took another swipe at Arnold Schwarzenegger for his performance on ‘Celebrity Apprentice.’

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted. He followed that with “How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!”

Trump’s allegations against Obama follow his attacks against Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer just a day before, saying that the two leading Democrats should be investigated after photos emerged of them meeting with Russian officials. Schumer was pictured with Vladimir Putin at an official event in 2003; and Pelosi during a meeting of delegates with then Russian President Medvedev and the Russian ambassador to the U.S.

Both lawmakers fired back at Trump, with Schumer noting that his meeting with Putin was held in the public eye and with the presence of reporters. He invited Trump to similarly come clean.

Trump’s attacks continue to erode Republican efforts to tamp down concerns over his team’s ties to Russia. His apparent incompetence both as a businessman and a politician in centralizing the messaging is also not doing him any favors causing multiple and inconsistent sources of information regarding the matter.
