As members of the Trump camp come under fire for communications with Russia, it seems an old dossier may come back to haunt the President.

In January, CNN released a 35-page document that claimed Trump was involved in obscene sexual acts. According to the Independent, the man believed to have authored the scandal, former British M16 officer Christopher Steele, has been called by the Senate to testify about the scandal.

Steele has been in hiding since the dossier was released and agreed to talk about his investigation to senators only if given certain security protections. At one point, he also asked the FBI to pay him to continue his investigation into Trump.

Following CNN’s release of the document, several other media outlets did the same. This controversial event, often referred to as ‘golden shower gate,’ was reportedly caused by information that Russian operatives had supposedly collected on the President. The document containing this information was reportedly presented to both President Trump and President Obama.

In the aftermath of the document’s release, the President attacked the former M16 officer and claimed that the report was fabricated. He also got into fights on the public stage with Buzzfeed News and CNN, accusing both publications as being “fake news.”

Since then, however, the allegations have been publicly dismissed by both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump.
